The 33 Foundation Day of ACAB was celebrated with due solemnity and gaiety at the Association’s new tent (courtesy of Calcutta Kennel Club) near the Park Street crossing, Kolkata on 2 January 2025 in the evening.
The organizers welcomed the members and distinguished guests. The Treasurer Sri Satyasri Banerjee reminded the audience of the circumstances leading to the genesis of the Association in 1992.
An inspiring message sent by the General Secretary Sri Swapan Raha was read out. Among those who spoke about the activities and objectives of the ACAB were veteran athlete S/Sri Chanchal Bhattacharya, Amar Mondal, Vice President, ACAB, Kamal Seth, Jt Secretary, WBAA, and Life Member, ACAB, Sanjay Jain, Himadri Roy and Swapan Khan.
Two coaches who had rendered meritorious service were given Athletics Coaches Day Awards, one of them posthumously. On behalf of the late Tarun Saha, his widow Smt Moushumi Saha received a memento from SAI Coach Sri Sushanta Roy and an honorarium of Rs 5,000.00 from Dr Kalyan Choudhury, Krira Guru, National Coach & former SAI Chief Coach. Dr Choudhury and Sri Roy reminisced about the deceased coach and lauded his contribution to developing athletics in Bengal. Acting Secretary, Sri Debnarayan Majumdar then informed the gathering about Dr Swadesh Ranjan Pan, the Motivational Coach Award recipient. Joint Secretary Arun Saha handed over a memento to him. Dr. Pan spoke on the efforts he made by himself to develop athletics in his district (Medinipur) from the grassroots, mentioning the utilization of the superb synthetic track at IIT Kharagpur for his trainees as well as his ambitious plans to set up an athletics academy at considerable personal sacrifice including financial.
The event was anchored by Smt Dipali Banerjee. The program was well attended and it ended with a vote of thanks by Acting Secretary Sri Debnarayan Majumdar.
