Sheela Dikshit dies: Former Delhi Chief Minister and senior Congress leader die in Delhi at the age of 81 on Saturday. On Saturday morning, She was admitted to a state of emergency in the state’s Escorts hospital after a cardiac arrest.
A multi-disciplinary team of doctors carried out advanced revival measures. His condition temporarily stabilized. However, She had had another cardiac arrest and, despite all the revival efforts, died at 3:55 PM, the hospital said.
Sheela Dikshit dies, her cremation is going to be done at 2 pm on Sunday at the corporation of Bodh Ghat.
Dixit worked as Delhi Chief Minister for three terms from 1998 to 2013. SHe was the longest-serving chief minister of Delhi.
In the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections, under his leadership, the Congress party pushed AAP candidates to third place in addition to registering an increase in their vote share in five of the seven seats in Delhi. In January this year, three times before the Delhi Chief Minister, citing health issues, Ajay Maken was appointed the president of the city unit after leaving the office.
Despite being an octogenarian, Dikshit led the party in the Lok Sabha elections and herself contested against Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tewari from the North East Delhi seat. SHe lost by over 3.66 lakh votes
Dikshit became MP for the first time in Kannauj Lok Sabha seat in 1984. SHe was also a close associate of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and a minister in his cabinet.
President Ram Nath Kovind expressed condolences to the Congress leader’s family and said that his tenure was a period of significant change for the capital.
